Prospective Member Application Process
2010-2011
Initial Visit to the Club:
The initial lunch visit by a guest will be paid for by the member of the Club bringing the guest.
It is the responsibility of the member to make sure his/her special guest is introduced to the membership and made to feel welcomed to the Club. The member should sit with his/her special guest during lunch and introduce the guest to the members at the table. The member should introduce his/her special guest to the entire Club during the formal introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests during the meeting. The member should introduce his/her guest as a “Special Guest,” cluing the membership to the fact that the guest is a prospective member. Following the meeting, the guest should be given the Club information sheet entitled “General Information for Prospective New Members.”
Second Visit to the Club:
The lunch on the guest’s second visit will be paid for by the Club. It is the responsibility of the member to make sure his/her special guest is introduced to the membership, and made to
feel welcomed to the Club. The member should sit with his/her special guest during lunch, and introduce the special guest to the members sitting at the table. The member should introduce his/her special guest to the entire Club during the formal introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests on the meeting agenda. Again, the member should introduce his/her guest as a “Special Guest,” and may indicate this is this guest’s second visit. Following the meeting, the guest should be given two handouts: “Why join your local Rotary Club?” and “What is Rotary?”
BEFORE THE THIRD VISIT TO THE CLUB:
The prospective member must meet with the Membership Committee, to be educated on the purpose of Rotary and the financial obligations of joining the Club. The prospective member will be given three handouts: “Our Club,” a “Rotary International Application,” and “Personal Bio Sheet.”
Third Visit to the Club:
The lunch on the prospective member’s third visit will be paid for by the Club.It is the responsibility of the member to make sure his/her special guest is introduced to the membership and made to
feel welcomed to the Club. The member should sit with his/her special guest during lunch and introduce the special guest to the members sitting at the table. The member should introduce his/her special guest to the entire Club during the formal introduction of visiting Rotarians and guests on the meeting agenda. Again, the member should introduce his/her guest as a “Special Guest,” and may indicate this is the guest’s third visit. The prospective member should then turn in to the Membership Committee his/her application, $100 application fee, personal bio and PR photograph before leaving.
PROCEDURE FOLLOWING SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION:
The prospective member’s application is reviewed by the Board of Directors and membership privileges are voted upon by the Board of Directors for approval. If the Board votes to admit the prospective member, the prospective member’s name is circulated to the membership. If no objections are voiced by the general membership of the Club, the prospective member is
inducted into the Club.
