ROTARY CLUB OF MONTECITO
2009-2010

(2009-2010 Rotary International Theme)
THE ROTARY STORY
Rotary is a world fellowship of business and professional people who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary is the world’s first service club. The first Rotary Club was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA on February 23, 1905 by Paul Harris. Rotary acquired its organizational name because originally membership met in rotation at various places of business.
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization consisting of more than 1.2 million members who volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, Service Above Self. These service-minded men and women belong to nearly 33,000 Rotary Clubs, 534 Districts in 200 countries and 35 geographical regions worldwide. Our Rotary District 5240 was chosen in 1993 as one of the 12 Model Districts in the World.
Rotarians meet weekly for fellowship and interesting and informative programs dealing with topics of local and global interest. Membership is by invitation and reflects a wide cross-section of the community representation. Rotary is not a secret organization and does not interfere with any religious or political organization.
Rotary International is the Association of Rotary Clubs throughout the world. Rotary International’s headquarters are located at: One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, Illinois 60201.
Rotary is The Rotary Foundation which each year provides some US $60 million for International Scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects through out the world that touches people’s lives in their local community and ourworld community.
Rotary’s mottoes are:“Service Above Self”, and “He/She Profits Most Who Serves Best”. Rotarians try to live by the Four Way Test in the things we think, say, and do:
Is it the Truth?
Is it Fair to all Concern?
Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendship?
Will it be Beneficial to all Concern?
